Attorney Tracey Wood is a shareholder with the Madison criminal defense firm of Van Wagner & Wood, S.C. of Madison, Wisconsin. She is a regent to the National College for DUI Defense (NCDD), the Vice President for the Wisconsin Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers (WACDL), and a member of the State Bar of Wisconsin, the American Bar Association (ABA), the Dane County Bar Association (DCBA), and the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers (NACDL). Tracey also served as Past President of the Dane County Criminal Defense Lawyers Association and serves on the Board of Directors of the Wisconsin Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers (WACDL). Tracey is a member of the Wisconsin bar. She is also admitted to the U.S. District Court Eastern District of Wisconsin, U.S. District Court Western District of Wisconsin, and the U.S. Court of Appeals 7th Circuit. Tracey was Wisconsin first ever attorney certified as a Standardized Field Sobriety Test (SFST) Instructor, first Wisconsin attorney, female and youngest lawyer ever appointed to the Board of Regents for the NCDD, and Wisconsin's only contributing author to "Drunk Driving Defense", by Lawrence Taylor and Stephen Oberman.
Tracey is known for her expertise in defending individuals accused of drunk driving and sex crimes including sexual assault. Her winning record also includes federal crime defense; she successfully defended a client charged with federal theft and conspiracy while three other defendants (with other attorneys) were sentenced to very long prison terms. She also successfully litigated United States v. Andrez Perez, 50 F. 3d 396 7th cir. (1995). She is often called upon to mentor other attorneys and teaches at antionwide defense seminars. Tracey's most famous trial win to date was in the federal Fort McCoy military vehicle theft case which received national media coverage and even received a nod from Jay Leno on the Tonight Show.
Tracey earned her law degree at the University of Wisconsin Law School in Madison, Wisconsin in 1992. She graduated with a B.A. at Marquette University in Milwaukee, Wisconsin in 1988. In addition to traffic violations and drunk driving cases, she handles all types of criminal defense cases at every stage in both state and federal court.
